According to news on July 18, the UK plans to build the world's largest drone aerial highway in the next two years and link it with the "Project Skyway" highway network plan. This project will be completed by 2024. Connecting the airspace over Reading, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Coventry and Rugby.
According to the BBC, this plan is part of the UK’s investment of 273 million pounds (approximately RMB 2.19 billion) to develop the aerospace industry. British MP Kwasi Kwarteng will make the announcement at the Farnborough International Air Show, which opens on July 18. Of this amount, 105.5 million pounds (approximately RMB 847 million) is earmarked for projects related to "integrated aviation systems and new vehicle technologies", including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Professionals revealed that this type of drone aerial highway has many potential uses. Whether it's the logistics industry, or police and medical departments transporting vaccines and blood samples, there's a real need to get into this space. The UK's drone highway project will use drones to deliver letters and medicines to remote areas of the UK and distribute medicines across Scotland, allowing some cancer patients to receive treatment in their local communities.
It is understood that this technology uses ground sensors installed along roads to provide real-time views of drones in the airspace. The specific data is then analyzed by the traffic management system, after which air traffic control of the drones guides them along the route and avoids collisions.
